100Gbps World

100 Gigabit Ethernet (100 GbE) is an Ethernet standard with a transmission speed of up to 100 Gb / s at the physical layer. We would like to share with you how fast it is and how huge it is.

100 Gb / s means that data of 100 G bits (10 e 10 = 10 to the power of eleven ) is transferred per second,.

The time to exchange 1 bit of information on Ethernet is called bit time,the bit time is 1/ 100 G  second.(10 e – 11 = 10 to the power of minus eleven ).It takes only 10e – 7 seconds to transfer 1K bytes(Assuming 10 bits x 10e 3 = 10 e 4 bitsof data.

Since the velocity c of the light in vacuum is about 299,792,458 m / s (0.29 x 10e 9) light goes cx 10e – 6 = 29.9792458 m durtingthis this 10e – 7 seconds.

Fro other point of view, capturing each packet flowing at a speed of 100 Gb/s is  like  capturing/catching the light 30 meters in a row.

Let’s estimate the amount of information when packet runs at the speed of 100 Gb/s.

In general it is said that 1 GB of data corresponds to 40 newspapers.

As 100 Gb/s is equivalent to (approx.) 10 GB / s,It means that 400 pages of newspaper information will be sent per second.

It becomes 36 TB in one hour, and  this corrensponds to 1.44 million pages of newspapers.

The thickness of the newspaper is about  0.07 mm, so 1.44 million pages ( printed both on the front and back) will be about 2000 meters.

Continuing to capture 100 Gb/s packets for 1 hour, the newspaper 1.44 million pages, about 2000 meters height.

The next step is anlyzer’s role  to find out the designated sentence and word  from the 2000 m newspaper ‘s information. SYNESIS is equipped with  analyzer function, but the future goal of SYNESIS to skip more process  fiind out the expecting data from 2000m of information.
